Our Shining Stars

We are extremely excited to announce that two of our Trainees have been announced as finalists for the Australian Training Awards - Trainee Of The Year Award. This award shines a light on individuals who have demonstrated exceptional capabilities as trainee educators, and enthusiasm and dedication towards the practical and theoretical components of their Traineeship.  A huge congratulations to Harvey Billingham, Certificate III Trainee at our Seaforth campus, and Georgia Sparks, Diploma Trainee.

A dream job

Georgia always dreamed of becoming an Early Childhood Educator. ‘I’ve always wanted a job that allows me to be active and creative.’ Says Georgia. She loves being around children and believes that each child is a curious and capable learner. Helping children to become lifelong learners was an obvious choice for Georgia.

Harvey found his own education journey enriching and valuable thus inspiring him to pursue a career in teaching. He hopes to have a positive and lasting impact on those he has the opportunity to educate and care for. ‘Aside from the possibility of being able to guide and assist in the education and development of young Australians, I also find working in early childhood education and care to be really fun! I always wanted to find a career that I was excited to work in every day. That has truly been the case with my time in this profession so far.’

Support provided through OAC’s Traineeship Program

For Georgia, the best thing about OAC’s Traineeship Program is the practical experience she has gained from working at OAC.  ‘I’m able to use my practical experience and my knowledge of the children in my class and primary care group in my assignments. It has been invaluable having the support of the team at Cammeray behind everything I do.’

Harvey attributes his success and enjoyment as a trainee to the support network he has at OAC. ‘I have felt supported the entire way. I don’t think I would have learnt as much as I have, as quickly as I have, without the traineeship program OAC offers. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to get involved in early childhood education and care!’

Georgia and Harvey will attend the 2022 NSW Training Awards – Central & Northern Sydney Region Event at Luna Park this month.

“When you get quality services and quality organisations delivering a higher standard of care that sits outside of basic childcare, then people start to develop a new respect for it. Having engaged, passionate and well-educated educators who love what they do, that’s what’s necessary to continue to lift the profile."
