Why Children Can’t Wait to Arrive at OAC Asquith Each Day

At OAC Asquith, mornings begin with something special. As children arrive at campus each day, they’re greeted not just with smiles—but with a brand-new chalk drawing created just for them. It’s become a beloved tradition, thanks to our talented campus cook, Yan.
Every afternoon, once his kitchen duties are wrapped up, Yan rolls up his sleeves again—this time with chalk in hand. He stays back to design a cheerful chalkboard illustration that captures the imagination of our children and adds a dose of creativity to the morning routine. Whether it’s a superhero, a seasonal scene, or a playful animal, the children arrive excited to see what he’s drawn next.
But Yan doesn’t stop with the kids. For families, he keeps a second chalkboard full of fun facts or light-hearted “dad jokes,” often becoming the talk of the morning drop-off. It’s a moment of connection that starts the day with laughter and sets the tone for a warm and welcoming campus experience.
Of course, Yan’s talents extend beyond the chalkboard. With a Malaysian background and a love for cooking (his favourite dish to make is a classic bolognese), he’s been preparing fresh, nutritious meals at Asquith for over four years. Every dish is part of our Dietitian Designed Menu, which rotates seasonally to ensure variety and balance. Meals are freshly prepared onsite each day by our in-house cooks and designed to support children’s growth, development, and lifelong healthy habits.
At OAC Asquith, the day starts with more than just breakfast—it starts with joy, creativity, and a strong sense of community.
