Kinder Children at OAC Mernda Explore Gardening and Seed Planting

At OAC Mernda, our Kinder children recently gathered with great excitement to begin a hands-on gardening project. Together, they planted a variety of seeds including fenugreek, mustard, beans, kidney beans and chia.
Their curiosity filled the room as questions quickly arose. “Can we eat them?” and “How long will it take to grow?” Each seed sparked wonder as the children carefully placed them into the soil and gently watered them, imagining what might happen next.
This activity was more than just planting. It gave the children the chance to observe, predict and explore how nature works. Soon, they will discover which seed grows the fastest and see first-hand how plants transform from seed to sprout.
Through this experience, the children are developing a love of learning while connecting with the natural world. Gardening offers them opportunities to practise patience, responsibility and care, all while having fun and building a sense of achievement.
At OAC Mernda, we believe these small moments can inspire lifelong curiosity and a deep appreciation for the environment.
