A Journey to Japan: Cultural Exploration at OAC Caringbah

At OAC Caringbah, learning is an adventure, especially when it connects to the people and cultures that make up our community. As part of an inquiry into different countries and cultures linked to our campus, the Preschool room recently embarked on a playful and engaging journey to Japan.
Children “boarded a flight” to Japan, complete with personalised boarding passes and a campus transformed into a lively, imaginative airplane. From there, the journey continued with a series of hands-on experiences that brought Japanese culture to life.
Children explored traditional fan making, played with Japanese toys, learned how to make sushi and practised using chopsticks. Each activity sparked curiosity, supported fine motor development and encouraged conversations about cultural traditions.
We believe children learn best through play, so learning is thoughtfully woven into every experience, through both structured and unstructured learning. This cultural journey is just one example of how we bring our Grow Curriculum to life, making learning meaningful through family, community and personal stories.
